Autism Therapy Dogs

 For those of us who have had pets in our lives, therapy dogs for autism it's not a big surprise to learn that interactions with animals can have therapeutic and healing properties. A New Mexico Highlands University School of Social Work students named Jennifer Barol a research project to explore the benefits and effects of animal-assisted autism therapy dogs, the study of children with autism therapy dogs, when used as a processing tool.

The study, "The effects of animal-assisted therapy on a child with autism therapy dogs" ran for 15 weeks from July to November, 2006. This was the purpose of discovering whether there is evidence that therapies based on the support of animals would be able aligned improve social skills in children with autism therapy dogs.

The results of the study were interesting. For example, before an animal-assisted autism therapy dogs with an eight-year-old Australian cattle dog named Henry, participant Zachary, who was five years old, had a dramatic struggle to communicate. Zachary was prone to temper tantrums and his ears and his eyes when he was frustrated by his lack of ability to understand. However, once Zachary met and associated with Henry, he had a virtual transformation. His confidence level is much higher, and it is ready to discover new activities with obvious curiosity. In the case of Zachary, a whole new world was opened by the experience and understanding of animal assisted autism therapy dogs.
